A Taste of Storybrook… Cherry Crunch 🍒🥧
When Cherry Pie Filling Refuses to Behave
If you’ve read The Write Recipe, you know cherries and Beau Calloway have a complicated relationship. (IYKYK) 😂
There was flour in the air.
A camera rolling. 📱
A very opinionated influencer.
And cherry pie filling that absolutely refused to behave. 🍒
Beau prefers his cherries baked neatly into a pie—contained and respectable. Riley Quinn? She doesn’t mind a little mess, especially if it makes good content.
Let’s just say what started as a simple kitchen moment turned into something far more… memorable.
This Cherry Crunch feels like a peace offering. 🤍
It’s unfussy. Forgiving. And if the filling bubbles over the edge—or leaves a little red evidence behind? Well. That’s half the charm.
This recipe comes straight from my family cookbook—attributed to my momma—and it’s one of those desserts I keep the ingredients in my pantry for surprise company. Around here, we don’t panic when someone shows up. We preheat the oven. 🔥
It’s also great if you need something to welcome a new neighbor. It’s equally perfect for a cold winter evening or a Fourth of July party.
Cherry Crunch 🍒
2 cans cherry pie filling (you could also substitute peach or blueberry)
1 tsp lemon juice
1 package white or yellow cake mix (your preference)
½ cup chopped nuts (I love walnuts 🌰)
½ cup melted butter
Whipped cream or ice cream for serving 🍦
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spread pie filling in the bottom of a greased 9-inch square pan or pie dish. Sprinkle with lemon juice. Combine dry cake mix, nuts, and melted butter—the mixture will be crumbly. Sprinkle evenly over the filling. Bake 40–50 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm with whipped cream or a generous scoop of ice cream.
This is one of those desserts that works any time of year. It’s easy. It’s comforting. It’s bubbly goodness. And it tastes even better when shared over coffee ☕, hot tea 🍵, or sweet tea on the porch.
If you’ve got to go hunt down a box of cake mix in your pantry, I understand. ✨
The rest of us are going to sit back with another scoop of cherry crunch and a generous dollop of Blue Bell ice cream—vanilla, butter brickle, whatever suits your fancy. 🍦
And if you’re wondering exactly how cherries caused such a stir in Storybrook… Beau and Riley are waiting for you in The Write Recipe. 💛
With Love, Life, and Laughter (not always in that order),
